Coffee from Kenya has long been recognized as one of the most interesting and distinctive in the world. If you are looking for intense sensations, distinct acidity and a clean, juicy taste – Kenyan coffee is the choice that should be in your cup. Kenyan plantations offer coffees of extraordinary complexity, which are valued by both baristas and home enthusiasts of alternative brewing methods.
In our offer you will find Kenyan whole bean coffees from the best foreign specialty roasters, such as Onyx Coffee Lab, Dropshot or Quickborn. We carefully select only those beans that we have had the opportunity to try ourselves and that meet the highest quality standards. So we know exactly what goes into your package – it's not random coffee, but a conscious choice backed by many cups of cupping.
What distinguishes coffee from Kenya is primarily its distinct, citrusy acidity, which often resembles the taste of blackcurrant, grapefruit, lime or rhubarb (James Hoffmann – The World Atlas of Coffee). Added to this are notes of sweet caramel, ripe tomatoes, red fruits and fresh cranberries. Such a characteristic sensory profile makes Kenyan coffees hard to confuse with any others.
Many experts believe that the taste of Kenyan coffee is the most expressive of all Arabica coffees in the world (Coffee Review – Kenya Coffee Tasting Report). This is due not only to the unique terroir, but also to processing. Kenyan beans are most often subjected to washing (washed process), which further emphasizes the purity of flavor and acidity.
The best Kenyan coffee comes from regions such as Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang'a and Meru. Plantations are usually located at altitudes of 1600 to 2100 meters above sea level, which promotes slow ripening of the fruit and the development of a rich aromatic profile (Specialty Coffee Association – Coffee Production in Kenya).
Although SL28 and SL34 varieties are most commonly found, our offer also includes less popular crosses and hybrids, such as Batian or Ruiru 11. These varieties have been selected for disease resistance, but can still provide unforgettable taste experiences – from notes of red wine to delicate jasmine.
Kenyan Arabica coffees are most often brewed using pour-over methods – V60, Chemex, Kalita or Aeropress are ways that best expose their fruity character and acidity.
However, if you like to experiment, it is worth trying Kenyan coffee also as espresso. Although it requires proper adjustment of the grinder and espresso machine, espresso coffee from Kenya can delight with a fresh, wine-blackcurrant body and a long, refreshing finish.
We are not a roastery – we select coffees for you from the best foreign sources. We have personally tried and tested most of them before introducing them to the store. Therefore, you can be sure that every freshly roasted Kenyan coffee you find in our offer has passed our taste selection.
You don't have to wonder where to buy Kenyan coffee. At CoffeeMates you will find only proven beans from renowned roasters who focus on quality, transparency and ethical sourcing.
