Striped Orange Wush Wush is a true rarity in the world of specialty coffee – a unique variety prized for its ancient and exotic origins. Its parent variety, Wush Wush, comes from the Wushwush region in southwestern Ethiopia. The "Striped Orange" version is a natural mutation of this variety – the fruit develops distinctive orange-yellow stripes as it ripens. This variety is known for its incredibly intense and naturally aromatic profile.
This lot was produced at Finca Las Marias, located in the Quindío region of Colombia, in the heart of the Andes. Producer José Giraldo is a third-generation farmer and owner of Café1959. The philosophy of Café1959 is based on shared passion and co-creation – the belief that cooperation at every stage allows for the creation of a truly exceptional cup of coffee. With a background in food engineering, José uses innovative processing techniques to unlock the natural potential of the coffee, while also focusing on sustainability at every stage of production.
This exceptional lot of Striped Orange Wush Wush underwent Natural Oxydator processing. In this method, exposure to oxygen is intentionally controlled to influence the fermentation process. The presence of oxygen supports the oxidation of sugars and other organic compounds, which directly translates into the development and complexity of the flavor profile. The precisely executed process further enhances the extremely aromatic character of the Wush Wush variety.
In the cup, the coffee delights with the intense sweetness of caramelized orange, complemented by the calm, elegant complexity of floral notes. The whole is enveloped by subtle accents of warm spices, reminiscent of star anise.
