Panama Los Naranjos Gesha variety, Natural process, from Dutch roaster Sango
Flavor notes: Orange, Pineapple, Rose
This lot of natural processed Gesha comes from the 9.3-hectare Horqueta 1 farm, located at an altitude of 1500 m above sea level. The land was purchased in 2015 as raw land and transformed from scratch into a diverse cultivation of Arabica varieties such as Gesha, Typica, Pacamara, and since 2019, also San Ramon.
The farm has houses for workers and a nursery supplying seedlings to the Horqueta region, using biodegradable capsules that support sustainable cultivation. A ram hydraulic system has also been implemented, providing constant access to water from a nearby river for workers and their families.
In the cup, the coffee offers sweet, citrus notes of orange, tropical accents of pineapple, and delicate, floral aromas of rose.
Panama is renowned today for its highest quality coffees, including the legendary Gesha variety. However, not all producers have equal opportunities for development – many struggle with a lack of funding and access to infrastructure. This is where Cuatro Caminos comes in.
Founded in 2014, the organization operates in the Boquete region of western Panama and currently collaborates with 45 coffee producers. It is based on a microfinance model aimed at long-term support and revitalization of less efficient farms, transforming them into specialty coffee producing farms at the highest level.
One of Cuatro Caminos' main objectives is the sustainable development of the coffee sector in Boquete. In addition to the economic aspect, the organization places a strong emphasis on environmental and social responsibility. Up to 20% of the net profits from farm operations – shared with investors – are allocated to infrastructure development, such as access to electricity, running water, or gas. Cuatro Caminos also improves working conditions, providing modern equipment, clothing, and daily support for farmers.
The organization also goes beyond standard aid programs, reaching out to distant producers with great potential and helping them achieve success. Cuatro Caminos combines capital, knowledge, experience, and human resources to improve the quality of the final product – which significantly contributes to strengthening the position of Panamanian coffee on the global specialty scene.
